Kia and Hyundai have teamed up with an American electronic vehicle startup to develop new technologies, including electric cars. They plan to use a platform from the new electric vehicle startup called the Canoo. Find all electric vehicles for sale at Lawton Kia in Oklahoma. Canoo was born in 2017 and already has plans to be in production by early 2021. The platform for canoo looks like it was taken from the HBO series Westworld. Described as an  “Urban loft on wheels”, the canoo is able to fit 7 adults and the seating is made to feel more like a sofa as it curves around the car, rather than having traditional row seating. The battery sits flat in the center and an electric motor is at one or both axles. The platform will incorporate a steer-by-wire system. This allows for the steering wheel to be anywhere. Also, there would be no restrictions by mechanical connections between the steering wheel and wheels. The Canoo has plans on being a fully self-driving system that will incorporate all of the sensors and camera systems needed to achieve this. Kia and Hyundai are currently developing integrated systems for self-driving cars with Aptiv, while Canoo will help develop new platforms for Kia and Hyundai’s vehicles. Awarded Best Rating Possible The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded its best rating possible, Top Safety Pick Plus (TSP+), to the Kia Stinger this June (2019). The Stinger’s TSP+ rating increases the total number of Kia vehicles with 2019 Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick Plus ratings to 10. A total of 10 Kia models are in the 2019 Insurance Institute Safety Awards when equipped with optional front crash prevention and specific headlights. In order to qualify for a 2019 TSP+ award, a vehicle must earn “Good” ratings in six crashworthiness tests - driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint- as well as an “Advanced” or “Superior” rating for front crash prevention and a “Good” headlight rating. The Kia Stinger earned “Good” ratings for all six crashworthiness tests and a “Superior” rating for the front crash prevention system, which helped it avoid collisions in the IIHS’s 12-mph and 25-mph track tests. The Stinger was the first Kia to introduce two new available technologies to the Kia Drive Wise suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems: Driver Attention Warning and Lane Keeping Assist. The Driver Attention Warning system helps combat distracted or drowsy driving in certain conditions. The system will sound a warning chime and display a graphic in the instrument panel that it’s time to take a break from driving if the vehicle senses the driver’s attention level is significantly low. Lane Keeping Assist detects and monitors the vehicle’s intended lane.
