The 2017 Kia Niro is the newest model of hybrid released by Kia but with an interesting twist; it doesn’t look like a typical hybrid.

As hybrids are becoming more and more popular in the United States; Kia is designing the 2017 Kia Niro to have more pop and style than its main competitor- The Toyota Prius. With the Niro, Kia is aiming for consumers who want all eco benefits that a hybrid provides, but with a more modern and exciting style.

Kia’s main goal for the Niro was achieving a combined 50-mpg, and achieved that goal with 52/49/50 mpg city/highway/combined in the base FE model. The LX and EX models of the Niro were not far behind, but due to a slight increase in weight achieved slightly under the FE at 51/46/49.

The engine that fuels this new car and its impressive 50-mpg combined is a four-cylinder 1.6-liter GDI unit, producing 104 hp. This works in cohesion with a 43-hp electric motor, which creates a combined total output of 139 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. Along with this, the Niro comes equipped with numerous features, including an 8-inch screen with the UVO3 infotainment system that supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Touring model of the Niro includes leather, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a Harman Kardon sound system and a variety of power outlets throughout the vehicle.

In terms of safety, the Niro Touring and EX models feature a rearview camera and Blind Spot Detection system, Lane Departure Warning, Smart Cruise Control, and an Autonomous Emergency Breaking system.

Starting prices for the Kia Niro with begin at less than $23,000 for the base FE model, where the fully-featured Niro Touring model with come into the fold at around $32,000. To learn more, please call us at Lawton Kia.
