Most people love their cars (especially if those cars are Kias), except when they have to fill up the gas tank. In Oklahoma, the prices fluctuate, but the upcoming holidays usually mean higher fuel prices everywhere. To save some cash for Christmas presents, holiday trips or just for frugality’s sake, here are car tips to save money.

Car Tips To Save Money

Below we have compiled a list of car tips to save money at the gas pump this holiday season.

Don’t wait until you’re running on fumes.

The most practical way to save money is to go to the cheapest gas station in town, but when you wait until you’re on E to fill up, you often don’t get to be picky about the station you use. Keep an eye on your fuel gauge and save the 20 cents per gallon. They add up quickly.

Buy gas on Hump Day.

Turns out, gas prices love getting over the mid-week hump, too. Prices tend to be cheaper on Wednesday than on any other day of the week.

Get your credit card rewards– but be careful.

This trick takes much self control. If you sign up for a rewards card that gets you cash back on all purchases or gas specifically, you can really rack up some air miles, rewards points or cash back bonus points. But, the only way to take advantage of a credit card and not allow it to take advantage of you is to pay it off as soon as you use it! Once interest gets tacked on at the end of the month, it practically negates all rewards. So, get your points, but treat it like a bank account.

Take care of your vehicle.

Making sure your fuel economy is as good as it can be is a great way to save money on gas. Maintaining tire pressure is generally considered one of the most important factors in getting great gas mileage from your car, truck or SUV.

Slow down, speed racer.

When you go above 60 your gas mileage dramatically decreases. Consider slowing down on your everyday commutes.

These car tips to save money should add a bit more cushion to your wallet even after this holiday season comes and goes.

Happy driving, Oklahoma!
