Kia’s boxy yet whimsical 2021 Soul is a newly redesigned subcompact 4-door wagon that won this award for a compelling blend of personality and practicality.

KIA SELTOS

Coming in between Kia’s subcompact SUV Soul and compact SUV Sportage in both size and price, Kia’s New-For-2021 Seltos has “more rear-seat and cargo space than most of its class rivals.

Rio
The EPA rates the Rio at 33 mpg city/41 mpg highway.
Soul
The Soul’s base 2.0-liter engine is rated at 25 mpg city/31 mpg highway with the 6-speed manual transmission and 28/33 or 29/35 with the CVT automatic. The turbo 1.6 engine is rated at 27/32. During Consumer Guide® evaluation, an X-Line returned 31.7 mpg and a Turbo averaged 30.4 mpg, both in tests that consisted of about 75 percent highway driving.
Seltos
The base 2.0-liter engine of the Seltos is rated at 29 mpg city/34 mpg highway with front-wheel drive and 27/31 with all-wheel drive. The turbo 1.6 engine, which comes solely with AWD, is rated at 25/30. During Consumer Guide® evaluation, an SX Turbo averaged 27.7 mpg in a test that consisted of 60 percent highway driving.
Telluride
The Telluride is EPA-rated at 20 mpg city/26 mpg highway with front-wheel drive and 19/24 with all-wheel drive. During Consumer Guide® evaluation, an all-wheel-drive SX model returned 22.9 mpg in a test that consisted of 70 percent highway driving.
All models use regular grade gas.
