This year Kia once again ranked second in the 2019 J.D. Power scorecard, scoring 70 problems per 100 vehicles.

This ranking is a remarkable accomplishment for Kia considering more brands dropped this year instead of improving in ranking in the heavily monitored Initial Quality Study released June 19, 2019, at the Automotive Press Association.

The 2019 Initial Quality Study is determined by the results of a 233 question survey across eight vehicle categories and is completed by 76,256 buyers and lessees of new 2019 models. Dave Sargent, vice president of global automotive at J.D. Power, said there are several underlying reasons for Kia’s continued high ranking, including its user-friendly technology that is easy for consumers to operate and understand.

According to Sargent, Korean brands like Kia are adept at “understanding exactly what consumers want in their vehicles and delivering just that.”

It’s Time to Figure Out Your Headrest

Kia Motor Corporation is well aware of customer complaints thanks to their Difficult to Understand (DTU) concerns received from feedback surveys. The Kia company works hard to ensure customer satisfaction through researching and correcting DTU complaints.

Traditionally, headrest operation issues have been the top DTU complaints across all Kia models. It is important to be comfortable while driving so it’s no surprise that bothersome headrests could cause issues. Kia headrests naturally lean forward to prevent dangerous whiplash injuries, but human heads want to fall back while driving comfortably so these two do not mesh well.

Here are some tips for our current Kia owning readers;

• The Kia Soul EV and Kia K900 luxury sedan are the only models with 4-way adjustable headrests with up/down and fore/aft adjustment. The K900 is also the only Kia model with a headrest that can be adjusted electronically through a button on the side of the seat cushion.
• For other Soul trims and Kia models, you can find headrest adjustment buttons at the bottom of the headrest polls to move the headrest up and down. To move the headrest forward, simply pull it forward and upward at 30 to 45 degrees. If you need to move the headrest backward, pull the headrest to the most forward position and release it so it snaps back.
• The Kia Sorento has the only headrest with the up/down button located on the headrests.

For premium safety and comfort in any vehicle, your headrest should sit so that the middle of the headrest is in line with the top of your eyes and it should rest as close to the back of your head as possible.

Your car manual should be a great source for all things Kia specific to your model, but if you are still uncomfortable or want to skip the reading, our secret tip is to just switch the rear and front headrests!

Donate with Lawton Kia to Cleveland Elementary

Our teachers are on the front lines of their students lives every day. Students look up to teachers and advisors for guidance and acceptance. Lawton Kia knows this so we love to show our Oklahoma teachers in the Lawton Public Schools our appreciation.

One thing the teachers of Cleveland Elementary have noticed is the lack of warm clothes for their students.

Lawton Kia is a proud partner of Lawton Public School’s Cleveland Elementary through our Teacher of the Month program. Monthly, we donate a certificate for a free oil change and tire rotation to the winning teacher to use at our Service Department. We’re excited that our partnership is growing through Cleveland Elementary’s introduction of their Coat Closet.

It’s time to do something for the students these teachers love so much.

This holiday season, Lawton Kia is going to donate new warm children’s coats to the Cleveland Coat Closet so that Cleveland Elementary students will not go cold this winter. You can help by visiting Lawton Kia and donating a new winter coat starting Monday, November 19th through Wednesday, November 21st, 2018.

Lawton Kia loves the new 2019 Forte! The 2019 Forte is a modest, yet modern car that must compete year after year with the hamster loving Soul and sporty Stinger, so you wouldn’t expect it to do as well as it does. The 2019 Forte is not lacking in features inside or out!
