2019 Kia Stinger Named a Top Safety Pick

The Kia Stinger strikes again! The 2019 Kia Stinger comes with new Advanced Driver Assistance Systems that have been generating a lot of buzz lately. Needless to say, the Stinger’s optional Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian Detection system earned a Superior rating in testing.

For all of those worried drivers out there, the 2019 Kia Stinger has your back. So, if you worry about being on the road or are an accident-prone driver then the 2019 Kia Stinger might be the car for you. Nowadays, drivers are constantly on their smartphones, not paying attention to the road. Having these advanced automobile technologies ensures a safer environment in this technology-filled world. The Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist works in conjunction with the Pedestrian Detection system and can detect a potential collision with another vehicle or pedestrian, bringing the car to a halt. So if an unexpected car or pedestrian crosses your path, the 2019 Stinger will actively avoid it.

Awarded Best Rating Possible

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded its best rating possible, Top Safety Pick Plus (TSP+), to the Kia Stinger this June (2019). The Stinger’s TSP+ rating increases the total number of Kia vehicles with 2019 Top Safety Pickor Top Safety Pick Plusratings to 10. A total of 10 Kia models are in the 2019 Insurance Institute Safety Awards when equipped with optional front crash prevention and specific headlights.

In order to qualify for a 2019 TSP+ award, a vehicle must earn “Good” ratings in six crashworthiness tests – driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint- as well as an “Advanced” or “Superior” rating for front crash prevention and a “Good” headlight rating. The Kia Stinger earned “Good” ratings for all six crashworthiness tests and a “Superior” rating for the front crash prevention system, which helped it avoid collisions in the IIHS’s 12-mph and 25-mph track tests.

Stinger Features

There are even other features in previous Stinger models. The Stinger was the first Kia to introduce two new available technologies to the Kia Drive Wise suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems: Driver Attention Warning and Lane Keeping Assist. The Driver Attention Warning system helps combat distracted or drowsy driving in certain conditions. The system will sound a warning chime and display a graphic in the instrument panel that it’s time to take a break from driving if the vehicle senses the driver’s attention level is significantly low. Lane Keeping Assist detects and monitors the vehicle’s intended lane. The driver will be alerted with an audible warning and a subtle steering aid to help maintain the vehicle’s position.

“No detail was too small to be obsessed over during the Stinger’s development process,” said Michael Cole, Chief operating officer and EVP, KMA. “The Stinger was engineered to be the fastest and highest performing vehicle in Kia’s history, undergoing the company’s most intense R&D effort to date, but it also continues Kia’s tradition of offering advanced collision avoidance systems. Earning another TSP+ award is just one more piece of evidence demonstrating our commitment to ‘Give it Everything.’”

Kia Second in 2019 J.D. Power Scorecard

This year Kia once again ranked second in the 2019 J.D. Power scorecard, scoring 70 problems per 100 vehicles.

This ranking is a remarkable accomplishment for Kia considering more brands dropped this year instead of improving in ranking in the heavily monitored Initial Quality Study released June 19, 2019, at the Automotive Press Association.

The 2019 Initial Quality Study is determined by the results of a 233 question survey across eight vehicle categories and is completed by 76,256 buyers and lessees of new 2019 models. Dave Sargent, vice president of global automotive at J.D. Power, said there are several underlying reasons for Kia’s continued high ranking, including its user-friendly technology that is easy for consumers to operate and understand.

According to Sargent, Korean brands like Kia are adept at “understanding exactly what consumers want in their vehicles and delivering just that.”
