Personally, the interior for this model is easily one of the most simple, yet unique designs we have seen for Kia. A digitized cluster display is centered for the driver to get all the road updates they need while a floating console and curved media screen add that perfect touch of luxury. A ton of storage space is available under this center console thanks to a center bin and multiple cubbies. A two-tone, two-spoke steering wheel is installed with gold accents spanning across the entirety of the interior controls & stitching. 

The technology is where things get big for this vehicle. The infotainment system inside runs through a 12-inch touchscreen that’s an extension of the EV6’s 12-inch digital gauge cluster. Not to mention this entire screen is curved. Advanced interior features are included as standard, some of which include:

Hyundai is able to send out Over-The-Air (OTA) updates in mass to its vehicles. This allows them to increase performance, safety, and more wirelessly over time. This is a very similar system that Tesla has been utilizing for years now in the auto industry. 

Charging & Battery Life You Can’t Resist

The Kia EV6 offers two battery sizes, both of which affect the speed, electric range, and performance of the vehicle. The battery sizes sell at a 58.0-kWh and a 77.4-kWh pack. The base range for this model expects to sit at 300 miles a charge. With the 800-volt operating levels, the EV6’s battery is capable of charging from 10% to 80% in under 18 minutes. A 5-minute charge provides around 70 miles of driving distance. 

Currently there is a model with a single electric motor on the rear axle or an upgraded engine option that carries an electric motor on both axles. This allows for increased horsepower & torque. While every AWD model has the larger battery pack option, the base rear-drive model offers the smaller battery. This motor setup provides 167 hp. Kia claims the 313-hp version will accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds. For those who are seeking the best electric drag performance, the GT has an estimated zero-to-60-mph, under 3.5 seconds.

Our Final Thought

As of now, there are four trims available for this year, the RWD Standard Range ($45,000), the RWD Long Range ($47,000), the GT-Line ($47,000), and finally, the premium GT at $55,000. The bold new designs, sleek interior theme, and impressive electric performance are some of the strongest factors for this vehicle. And with OTA updates expected to come out over the years, possible downsides for the 2021 EV6 may disappear completely. Some of which could include charging times, 0-60mph times, and safety.

Engine & Transmission

The Forte offers two different engine options: a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 147 horsepower and a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder with 201 horsepower. Depending on what you are looking for, both options are phenomenal. Both options also work with drivetrain and transmission to provide nothing but a smooth ride.

Available with either a manual or automatic transmission, the Forte takes about 8.2 seconds to get from 0-60mph while the Forte GT model is capable of utilizing that extra horsepower, getting up and going in less than 6.7 seconds! This time range puts it at around the same level of other popular compact sports cars like the Volkswagen Jetta GLI and the Honda Civic Si. 

Interior Features & Cargo

Similar to other compact sedans in its market, Kia’s Forte showcases a sleek, minimalist design that gives you a luxury feel. Capable of carrying up to  5 passengers, the back seats hold plenty of space for legroom and cargo during long road-trips or outdoor adventures. 

Bluetooth connectivity, Apple Carplay, Android Auto, and a wireless charging pad are all integrated onto an 8-inch touchscreen display. This makes the technology introduced for Kia’s low-cost sedan an absolute steal for its price point. 

Climate control features have also been added and include heated/ventilated front seating and dual zone climate controls. Cargo in the 2021 Forte is also a strong competitor in its class. It beats other popular vehicles with the ability to hold up to seven carry-on bags with all the back seats down. 

Fuel Economy & Real-World MPG

While the stronger and faster 2-liter option is plenty efficient on the streets, Kia’s 1.6-liter base model excels in ensuring gas station visits are a thing of the past. With a highway rating of 40mpg and 33mpg combined, the Forte is a strong contender in the fuel economy world. The GT trim on the other hand holds up at about 30mpg for combined. In a 200-mile highway fuel-economy test, the 2019 K4 registered 41 mpg, coming out just above the EPA rating.

Safety & Driver Assistance

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the 2021 Kia K4 4 out of 5 stars. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) also named it a Top Safety Pick+ for 2021. While many car brands don’t offer newer, modern safety features with the base model, Kia offers a list of features. These features include standard-forward collision with automated emergency braking, lane-departure warning with steering assistance, and adaptable cruise control.

It’s a bird, it’s a plane no! It’s the desirable 2021 Kia K5 midsize sedan that has people talking and asking questions! Should I buy the Kia K5? Is it really worth it? How it operates, how smoothly the vehicle runs and one of my favorites is when you have the car running, it doesn’t sound like it’s on. I am not sure about anyone else but that excites me!! The sedan makes driving fun with its turbocharged engines and enhanced wide-track suspension. 

Kia K5 Available Trims

The 2021 model comes in five trims and the exterior is slightly different but still serves the same. The trims offered are LX, LXS, GT-Line, EX, and GT. Let’s talk about a few of them! The LX front grille is hyper silver, has outside mirrors that are power-adjustable and heated. It has solar control glass reducing interior heat build-up to keep the driver and passengers comfortable. The sound-absorbing front windshield feature helps create a quiet environment while riding around.

LED Headlights

The vehicle has multi-reflector LED Headlights, auto light control and Amber LED daylight running lights. The partial LED headlights offer a crisp and focused illumination for the driver. The auto light control is super cool and very convenient. It can adjust itself depending on the level of outside light. No need to take your hands off the wheel when your vehicle will do the work for you. The Amber LED running lights are the different styles that we love and embrace.

As LED headlights are becoming a new thing, brands of vehicles are gravitating toward them. However, K5 knows how to put their own spin to it to separate themselves from the rest. This trim also has a locking fuel-filler door. So you mean to tell me I can protect my tank? Correct! You can protect the tank and no you don’t have to pick through keys. There’s an electric lock and release remote. 

LXS Trim

The LXS is slightly the same but has its own distinctive style. The trim comes with cool illuminated door handles and a smart trunk. The smart trunk does most of the work for you which is the wow factor. All you have to do is stand behind the vehicle with your smart key and the trunk opens automatically for you. I love the saying “Less is More”! In this case, it speaks truth and volume. 

GT Trim

The GT-Line body styling is amazing! This model’s front and rear feature is uniquely designed with gloss black accents and special wheels. This vehicle comes with a panoramic sunroof with a power sunshade. Just imagine a nice sunny day where you just want to leave the house and get a breath of fresh air. You can get in the car and open the sunroof that adds fresh air and light with ease. The GT has LED headlights, not like the LX and LXS; this model is equipped with full headlights to help improve driving visibility.

The base 2.0-liter engine of the Seltos is rated at 29 mpg city/34 mpg highway with front-wheel drive and 27/31 with all-wheel drive. The turbo 1.6 engine, which comes solely with AWD, is rated at 25/30. During Consumer Guide® evaluation, an SX Turbo averaged 27.7 mpg in a test that consisted of 60 percent highway driving.

Telluride

The Telluride is EPA-rated at 20 mpg city/26 mpg highway with front-wheel drive and 19/24 with all-wheel drive. During Consumer Guide® evaluation, an all-wheel-drive SX model returned 22.9 mpg in a test that consisted of 70 percent highway driving.

• Kia and Hyundai have teamed up with an American electronic vehicle startup to develop new technologies, including electric cars.
• They plan to use a platform from the new electric vehicle startup called the Canoo.

Canoo was born in 2017 and already has plans to be in production by early 2021.

The platform for canoo looks like it was taken from the HBO series Westworld. Described as an  “Urban loft on wheels”, the canoo is able to fit 7 adults and the seating is made to feel more like a sofa as it curves around the car, rather than having traditional row seating.
 

The battery sits flat in the center and an electric motor is at one or both axles. The platform will incorporate a steer-by-wire system. This allows for the steering wheel to be anywhere. Also, there would be no restrictions by mechanical connections between the steering wheel and wheels.
 

The Canoo has plans on being a fully self-driving system that will incorporate all of the sensors and camera systems needed to achieve this.

Kia and Hyundai are currently developing integrated systems for self-driving cars with Aptiv, while Canoo will help develop new platforms for Kia and Hyundai’s vehicles. It will need to be able to fit the needs and specifications for a variety of vehicles ranging from small hatchbacks to large vans.

5 Year Plan

Over the next 5 years, Kia and Hyundai will spend a combined $77 billion towards the future of new technologies.

“We are highly impressed by the speed and efficiency in which Canoo develops their innovative EV architecture, making them the perfect engineering partner for us as we transition to become a front-runner in the future mobility industry,” says Albert Biermann, head of R&D at Hyundai and Kia. “We will collaborate with Canoo engineers to develop a cost-effective Hyundai platform concept that is autonomous ready and suitable for mass adoption.”
